As fall comes around your skin might be feeling the effects of the sun. Everyone knows that you should be wearing sunscreen, that you shouldn’t tan and that the sun can damage your skin, but this advice isn’t always followed. If you got sunburned this summer or even got a little tan, you probably need to give your skin a little extra love this fall.
If your skin is currently sunburned or damaged, take cool showers or baths. As soon as you get out of the bath or shower, pat yourself dry and apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. Moisturizers with aloe vera, oatmeal or soy can help soothe your skin. If your skin is hurting, apply a hydrocortisone cream.
While your skin is dehydrated, your body might be dehydrated as well. Drink more water to help your body and skin bounce back.
Once your skin is starting to bounce back, get a moisturizing facial or use a face mask to help your skin recover more quickly. If you are starting to notice dark spots or wrinkles from sun damage, add a retinoid cream to your skincare routine.
If you damaged your skin over the summer, now might be a good time to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist. They can help you change up your skin care routine and recommend products that can help your skin heal quickly.
Remember, if your skin is very red and blistered or painful, you may need to go to the doctor to get a stronger cream to treat your sunburn or sun damage. Don’t wait or your skin could be damaged permanently.
