I know, I know! As a fashion blogger, I constantly need to be in touch with the latest fashion trends and know what is in or out of fashion. But that does not necessarily mean that we have to love everything that is trending! I posted an article on new fashion trends and whether it is important to buy them all. It is amazing to know how many of you could relate to my thoughts! I recently came across an article on Elle Magazine about how we are unknowingly becoming a slave of what is called the latest fashion trends!
So today’s post is dedicated to some of the fashion trends that I dislike and feel that they should die soon and make room for something more fresh and wearable!
As a disclaimer I would like to mention that my thoughts are personal and under no circumstances I mean any offence to anyone.
Extreme Distressed Denims
I do love distressed denims actually. In fact I recently created a D.I.Y ripped pair out of one of my old denims! I love the touch of edge that a moderately distressed pair of denims can bring to an outfit, more so when you team them with a pretty feminine blouse. But hey, there has to be limit to distressing a pair. Ripping a pair to death is so not my style and I don’t find anything flattering about an extremely distressed denim. Do you?
Backward Shirts
I seriously don’t understand why anyone would want to wear a shirt backwards. I don’t see anything fun in it! It is neither comfortable nor greatly creative! I understand blouses with a back opening. But wearing a normal shirt reversed is absolutely meaningless!
Bralette Over Tops
I love my lingerie where they belong, as inner wears. While a little peek-a-boo is sensuous, wearing a bralette or a bustier over a top or a tee is beyond my understanding. When I saw this trend on the runway for the first time I seriously wondered why! I kind of disliked it so much. And I could see this trend getting very popular and lot of fashion bloggers styling it really well. But even my most favorite fashion bloggers couldn’t inspire me to try wearing my bralette over a shirt! Now I feel I have seen it enough and it is about time lovely fashionistas wear their bras or bustiers under their shirts and tees rather than over them 🙂
Kidswear Appliques
I know we all have a little child inside us but there are better ways to give an outlet to the child within than going too literal with kidswear inspired clothes! Honestly I quite liked these appliques as one of the latest fashion trends initially. But soon it got too much to bear with! Bananas, ice-creams and popping eyes on oversized denim jackets and boy friend fit denims were anything but flattering to be worn by an adult!
Cold Shoulders
I must admit I am a lot tolerant of this trend compared to the rest of my list! It is not all that bad. In fact I quite like the shoulder baring bardot trend a lot. But it’s just that I don’t think it is at all appealing as a design feature. I mean if I want to show off my shoulders for any reason, I will wear an off shoulder, a bardot or a sleeveless outfit. What’s with those two little openings on the shoulders? What do they do?
Extreme Over-size Fits
I swear I loved this trend. In fact I shared this as one of my favorite latest fashion trends of the season. After all, we are normal human beings. We may not be able to fit into a bandage dress every day of our lives. It’s amazing to have oversized silhouettes as a trending fashion. I though I could hide unsightly bulges under those extra fabrics and yet be on trend. I know, what I saw on the runway was little too dramatically oversized, but I also thought that the practical trend that will trickle down to the street fashion would be a lot more wearable. Guess i was seriously wrong! People decided to take oversized too literally and decided to wear outfits at least 5 sizes bigger than their own! Reason? Who knows? And the most intimidating fact is that I picked up these images from ‘best dressed’ sections of some of the greatest fashion magazines of the world! 🙂
Unicorn Inspired Hair
I wonder if I am the only one feeling this way, but are we not over “Unicorn everything” yet? If not, can we at least be over the unicorn inspired hair highlights please! Not only will I never do it, I will not even want to see anybody doing it anymore! I know I myself said several times on the blog that when it comes to fashion, never say never. But with unicorn hair, hell never! I mean I can wear it to a costume party as a wig but colouring my hair like I just stepped out of a fantasy land is well, too much!
I loved writing this post. Not only was it a nice break from doing look posts. it was also fun to put together this list. I would love to hear your thoughts because I know a lot of these trends might be your favourites as they are pretty popular. So, do leave your comments below!
Enjoy your day! See you soon!
